Mission/Vision

The Sheldon ISD STEM program provides an engaging, rigorous STEM learning experience that develops a student’s ability to answer complex questions, investigate global issues, and develop solutions to challenging, real-world problems with the goal of acquisition of the skillset required for future STEM careers.

 

The Sheldon ISD STEM Experience

The Sheldon STEM Academy thrives on a high-quality STEM culture in which students have the ability to strengthen and utilize creativity, manage time and resources, demonstrate a growth mindset, and develop GRIT! Our unique STEM experience produces 21st-century learners who are confident critical thinkers that can effectively communicate and collaborate to innovate the future of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Why Is STEM Education Important For The Future?

  • STEM education prepares students to navigate and contribute to a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.
  • STEM education fosters critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and innovation—skills vital for complex modern life and essential for addressing global challenges.​
  • Early exposure to STEM helps students build confidence in science and math, making them better equipped to tackle real-world challenges and pursue a broad range of careers.​
  • Data consistently shows that STEM jobs are expanding faster than non-STEM roles and often offer significantly higher wages and greater opportunities.
  • STEM jobs are projected to grow by 10.4% between 2023 and 2033, more than double the rate for all other occupations, reflecting strong demand, especially in fields like computing, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.​
  • In 2021, 24% of the U.S. workforce—over 36 million workers—were employed in STEM-related roles.​
  • By 2025, the U.S. will need to fill about 3.5 million STEM jobs, but around 2 million of those may remain vacant due to a skills gap.​
  • STEM jobs generally pay more, with a median annual wage of $101,650 in 2025, compared to $46,680 for non-STEM jobs.​
