Apprenticeship Program

Sheldon ISD has an exciting opportunity available for current and future employees as part of a new Apprenticeship Program. The program will kick off in fall 2024 and is designed to provide hands-on training for future educators in kindergarten through 12th grade classrooms. Participants are able to earn their teaching degree and complete the required certifications, while receiving on-the-job training with a seasoned mentor teacher in Sheldon ISD. Participants will take on paraprofessional responsibilities, which may include co-teaching with experienced teacher-leaders, providing a unique perspective on educational strategies and classroom management.

Sheldon ISD recognizes the need to create opportunities for nontraditional students to earn their bachelor’s degree and teacher certification as part of its recruiting design. The Apprenticeship Program will be able to address current employment needs while providing a “grow your own” concept for individuals with a desire to enter the teaching profession. Candidates will be able to receive support throughout their journey to becoming a teacher for up to four years of education.

  • Individuals that hold a non-teaching position in Sheldon ISD
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
    • Must enroll in a partnering university, college, or alternative certification program upon acceptance of the apprenticeship offer, or be currently enrolled as a clinical teaching student with a partnered university.
