No, in order to qualify, your child must be 4 on or before September 1 of the current school year.

The following documents are considered acceptable.

• Original Birth certificate
• Statement of the child’s date of birth issued by the division of the Texas Department of State Health Services responsible for vital statistics for school admission purposes
• Passport
• School ID card, records, Report card
• Military ID
• Hospital Birth record
• Adoption records
• Church Baptismal record

• Lease agreement
• Mortgage statement
• Current gas, light, or water bill

No, you must be a resident in Sheldon ISD's attendance zone to enroll in the program. 

Sheldon ISD provides transportation for enrolled students who live within the district's attendance zone to the Early Childhood Academy for which they are zoned.

Yes the student can attend, however, the district has established written guidelines for managing these situations in the Self-Care Parent Agreement. Parents should understand that school personnel cannot physically assist with toileting.

Your child must meet at least one of the following:

• The child is unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or
• The child is educationally disadvantaged (which means a student eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program; or
• The child is homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child’s guardian or other person having lawful control of the child; or
• The child is a child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
• The child is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or
• The child is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code; or
• The child is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as: a peace officer under Section 3106.002 Government Code; a firefighter under Section 3106.003, Government Code; or an emergency medical first responder under Section 3106.004, Government Code.

Yes! Starting the 2021-22 school year, Sheldon ISD expanded the program to include a tuition-free option for students who wouldn’t normally be eligible because they don’t meet the usual income, language or other requirements. The only eligibility requirement is that a student must be 4 years old on or before September 1. This expansion ensures more young learners get the great start that a quality pre-K education provides without their families having to pay any tuition or fees.

No, prekindergarten is not mandatory. However, upon enrollment in prekindergarten, a child must attend school. All students are subject to compulsory school attendance rules while they are enrolled in school.

Yes, a household may submit a complete application that contains the name of the child, a current SNAP or TANF group number and an adult signature. Lone Star Card account numbers are not acceptable SNAP case numbers on the application.
