Bad Weather Information

Sheldon ISD is committed to providing a quality educational experience every day for its students. Occasionally, the weather becomes a factor beyond SISD's control and can cause changes in the daily schedule. Additionally, District officials are aware that closings can cause problems for families; therefore, weather conditions are carefully reviewed before classes are cancelled, starting later or dismissed early. School personnel and transportation plans are in place to assure the well-being of students affected by the decision to dismiss students early.

If weather conditions exist or should develop during the course of the day that will have an effect upon driving conditions and/or school facilities, it may become necessary to delay the start of school, close school or dismiss students early. Decisions to close school will be announced by 6 a.m. or as soon thereafter as possible.

The following factors are considered when we make a decision that alters the normal school schedule:

• Information on road conditions and whether buses/cars can safely travel
• The existing accumulation of snow or ice
• The rate and expected duration of precipitation
• Parking lot and sidewalk conditions
• Weather predictions

The safety of Sheldon ISD families and staff will always be the District's top priority when faced with decisions about school closings due to weather.

When changes to the normal school schedule occur, information will be posted on the home page of this website as well as the District's Facebook page, and Twitter page. Additionally, local TV and radio stations will be notified, and a call out via SchoolMessenger will notify families and staff members.
