Pre-Advanced Placement & Advanced Placement
Sheldon ISD was one of 373 districts in the U.S. and Canada to be named to the 9th Annual AP District Honor Roll. The distinction is presented to districts that increase access to AP courses while increasing the number of students who score a 3 or higher on AP exams.
Advanced Placement®
The Advanced Placement® (AP) Program allows high school students to participate in college level courses with the potential to earn college credit while still in high school. In May of each year, students can earn college credit by demonstrating mastery on the AP exam for each course. AP exams contain both multiple choice and free response questions that require students to write essays and/or solve problems.
Refer to the C.E. King High School course descriptions for the most recent AP courses offered.
The College Board® is the organization responsible for developing the college readiness system that includes Advanced Placement and Pre-Advanced Placement courses.
The College Board® also
- Develops PSAT® and SAT® exams
- Audits each teacher’s AP® syllabus
- Develops the AP exams
- Supports Pre-AP and AP programs by offering professional development
What is Pre-AP®?
Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP®) classes prepare students for Advanced Placement (AP®) courses. Pre-AP is offered in middle school and high school. In middle school, Pre-AP courses are offered in social studies, science, English language arts, and math.
