March 3, 2021 - Sheldon has released updated testing schedule information for the spring assessments. Click here for more information.
In December, 2020, the Texas Education Agency announced A-F ratings would be paused for the 2020-21 school year because of the ongoing disruptions associated with COVID-19. Sheldon ISD supports this announcement as the district strongly believes the focus should remain on the safety of our community. Additionally, Sheldon believes there are multiple ways to measure the academic progress and achievement of our students that go beyond one test.
Although our operations have changed because of COVID-19, it remains important and necessary to make sure that our students are continuing to progress academically. To help make that happen, the state is requiring school districts to make the TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) and STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) exams available to all eligible students. This year, student performance on the TELPAS and STAAR will not adversely affect them. However, the test results will help Sheldon ISD determine the best way to meet the instructional needs of each child.
**Graduation requirements remain in effect. High school students are required to pass all 5 STAAR EOC assessments in order to graduate.
TELPAS testing is held February through March. STAAR testing is held in April and May. To ensure valid and reliable results, the state requires students to take the test in a secure environment. All Sheldon ISD students taking the TELPAS and/or STAAR exams, whether learning online or in person, will be tested in their school building. On testing days, Sheldon ISD will do everything we can to continue with our safety precautions. Safety continues to be our biggest priority in our classrooms.
