How do I know if I am eligible for a Homestead exemption?
You are entitled to receive a Homestead exemption on your primary residence if you reside there as of January 1st of the tax year.
How do I obtain a Homestead exemption form?
You may download the Homestead exemption form by clicking here for the link to the Harris County Appraisal District's website. Once you complete this form it must be returned to the Harris County Appraisal District.
How much will I receive on my Homestead exemption?
Sheldon ISD gives 20% off the total value of your property and the state gives an additional $25,000 off the total value of your property.
What if I don't receive a tax statement?
Failure to receive a tax statement does not affect the validity of the tax, penalty and interest, due date, the existence of a tax lien or any procedure instituted to collect a tax.
When are taxes due?
Tax statements are normally mailed each October of the tax year and are due upon receipt. In order to be timely, payment of taxes must be postmarked before the specified date. Taxes are delinquent on February 1st of each year. Taxes are subject to penalty and interest, and possible lawsuit.
What type of payments does Sheldon ISD accept?
Personal and Business Checks, Money Orders, Cashier's Checks, and Cash. You may also make a payment On-Line or by phone using a Check, Debit or Credit Card. Please make payments payable to: Sheldon ISD Tax Office
