Superintendent King Davis thanked everyone for coming out to celebrate this special occasion, which was part of a $285 million bond package voters approved in May 2016.
“This wonderful new 10,000-seat stadium will start a new chapter for our coaches, athletes and fans,” Davis added.
Latricia Archie, Sheldon ISD School Board President, was also excited to talk about the new facility.
“I have lived in the Sheldon community all my life,” Archie said, “and words cannot express how excited I am that many of our athletes will now have an opportunity to compete in this new stadium.”
Other speakers at Wednesday’s event included Board Member Ken Coleman who, at the time of the project’s construction, was the school board president. Also, C. E. King High School Principal Dr. Keith Brooks and Sheldon ISD Athletic Director Derek Fitzhenry addressed the crowd.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony was the high school’s “Meet the Panthers” event where students and student athletes were recognized.
Lastly, the evening was capped off by a showing of the timeless sports classic, “Rudy,” on the stadium’s new videoboard.
Davis said the district will have its third and final ribbon cutting of the school year in January 2020 when the new C. E. King High School has been officially turned over to district personnel.
