Sheldon ISD seeks staff, community input for proposed 2020-2021 school year calendar

During the February 18, 2020 Sheldon ISD School Board meeting, two potential school calendars were presented to the Board for discussion. From now until Monday, March 2, 2020 (4 p.m.), SISD is engaging the Sheldon community for input on these proposed calendars.

Sheldon ISD is a District of Innovation which affords the district the ability to have more flexibility in the design of a calendar that best meets the needs of its students.

Sheldon ISD Compass Schools parent information meetings set for Feb. 25-26

Sheldon ISD will be hosting parent information meetings regarding the district’s Compass Schools program next week. The first meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Cravens Early Childhood Academy beginning at 6 p.m.; and the second meeting will take place at Sheldon Early Childhood Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 26, also at 6 p.m.
Compass Schools allows parents to choose a specialty program (Performing and Visual Arts; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math; or High Tech) that best fits the interests and/or needs of their child.
The informational meetings are for parents whose children will be entering first grade during the 2020-2021 school year.

Applications for T-STEM Academy available this week (only through 5th grade science teachers)

Attention Parents of current 5th Grade Students: Applications for the middle school T-STEM Academy are available this week only through 5th grade science teachers. Students should submit completed and signed applications no later than this Friday, February 28th. Students will be selected via a lottery system. KHS senior named ‘Regional Finalist’ for Coca-Cola scholarship

C. E. King High School senior Sofia Bucio-Garcia has been named a Regional Finalist for the Coca-Cola Scholarship. There were more than 93,000 applicants who applied for this scholarship – and Sofia’s next step is to participate in an interview. Then, if selected to move on, approximately 150 students will be invited to the Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia to attend workshops and to receive their awards.

On Friday, Feb 4, KASE hosted its annual mini college fair. Several schools participated including San Jacinto College-North, San Jacinto College-Maritime Campus, Lee College, the University of Houston-Downtown, Texas State Technical College, Texas Barber College, and the Texas Workforce Commission.

Sheldon ISD celebrates 'Black History Month'

February is Black History Month - and this year's national theme is "African Americans and the Vote."

Through voting-rights campaigns and legal suits from the turn of the twentieth century to the mid-1960s, African Americans made their voices heard as to the importance of the vote.

Indeed the fight for black voting rights continues in the courts today.
