Sheldon ISD surprises select teachers with considerable salary increases
On Friday, May 2, Sheldon ISD surprised teachers with the news that they have earned a designation through the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment resulting in significant salary increases. Last year, Sheldon ISD implemented the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) program as an initiative to reward, retain and recruit highly effective teachers on every campus while providing a realistic pathway for top teachers to earn six-figure salaries.
Last year, Sheldon ISD received approximately $110,000 to disperse to 16 educators based on their Recognized or Exemplary distinction. This year, 56 Sheldon ISD teachers will benefit for a total of $2.3 million for the next five years.
During the 86th Legislative Session, funding to support the Teacher Incentive Allotment was built into Texas state law as part of House Bill 3. This funding source established the ability for Sheldon ISD to implement a local designation system to recognize effective teachers on three different levels: Recognized, Exemplary and Master. Based on state qualifying criteria, Sheldon ISD has designated 43 Recognized teachers, 11 Exemplary teachers and 2 Master Teachers.
The funding is provided to the teachers annually through additional compensation for the next five years as long as they continue to meet the Teacher Incentive Allotment requirements.
