Construction Updates

Sheldon ISD Construction Overview

In November 2022, Sheldon ISD voters approved a $247.7 million bond proposal to support the district's enrollment growth. The passing of the bond allows Sheldon ISD to continue to support the enrollment growth seen annually with a new 9th and 10th Grade Campus as well as expand Null Middle School and Cravens Early Childhood. Additionally, there will be district-wide facility sustainments and improvements, upgrades to safety and security, new buses purchased with GPS tracking systems and upgrades to classroom technology.

Sheldon ISD is a fast-growth school district which means it sees student enrollment growth of more than 23% over the last eight years. In 2015, Sheldon has approximately 8,500 students, and started the 2022-23 school year with 10,770 students. Demographic studies projected Sheldon ISD to have student enrollment of more than 13,000 by 2026. The district currently serves 11,000 students.

SISD Tax Rate

Sheldon ISD is one of the only districts in the area that offers 20% off an assessed value for taxes. This is something the School Trustees voted to do for the community more than 20 years ago.

2022 Tax Rate per $100 Valuation

Funds Rate

General Operating Funds (M&O) $0.7575
Debt Service Fund (I&S) $0.5000
Total Tax Rate $1.2575

A school district's tax rate is made up of two components: Maintenance and Operation (M&O or the General Operating Fund) and Interest and Sinking (I&S or the Debt Service Fund). Adding the two figures together provide the total school tax rate.

The M&O rate is used to fund day-to-day operations like maintenance of schools and facilities, salaries, and utilities.

The I&S rate can only be used to make payments on district bonds that fund construction and/or other items like technology and buses.
