    Learning happens after school, also!

    KHS Girls Basketball

Girls' basketball practice after school hours. What can students learn without a pencil and paper? Endurance, perseverance, problem-solving and many other things. Thank you, girls, for showing heart!

Cake decorating at the FFA show--interesting to watch these students as they create with a cake the ideas they have in their mind. Two lucky ones received instructions from their mother!

Dr. Vickey M. Giles, Sheldon ISD Superintendent

Happy New Year! 2012 is going to be a great year as we celebrate 60 years as a school district. Sheldon ISD was first established in 1952 and has continued to grow and change in those 60 years. During this year, we will take a look back at the rich history of Sheldon ISD and will also look forward to the future generations who will be educated in our district. We are Sheldon, a community of learners, sharing the past, shaping the future.

I absolutely loved driving up to the intersection of Garrett Road and Beltway 8 and seeing our new sign that says "Sheldon ISD"!
Now people passing through will know they are in Sheldon!

  • Thank You Sheldon!

It’s November and I’m thankful that the voters in SISD approved the Tax Ratification Election. Because of that approval, we will be able to balance our budget this 2011-2012 school year! Thank you, SISD voters!

I’m also thankful for our staff, our students, and a district where educating students is a priority! Living in a country where educating all students is “the way we do things” is something that makes me continually grateful. Education has always been important to me—if I had been born in another country, I might not have had the opportunity for the quality public education I received.

I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  • 7,000 +

    Elementary

On Monday, August 29, enrollment in Sheldon ISD reached 7000 students—7014, to be exact. Who would have thought that would happen? Actually, a superintendent named Stephanie Cravens, and a board of trustees in 1998 believed that the growth was coming, enough so that they rallied the community taxpayers to vote “for” a bond issue in 1998 and again in 2000. Their commitment to and belief in Sheldon ISD is the reason we have adequate classroom space for our growing student population! What an exciting time in our district!

  • More Summer Fun!

    Summer School Fun!

MORE Summer fun at summer school! Who says summer school is boring?

What I saw today as I visited elementary and kindergarten summer school was far from boring. Students were engaged in a myriad of fun activities. One kindergarten class was learning about summer, the weather, and all kinds of good summer words. In addition, they were making their own sunglasses. You can see some pictures above!

The elementary GT class has turned into CSI agents, complete with a code name. The room was abuzz with agents as they discussed their clues, working to figure out a solution to the problem. In the library, students were participating in reading a book about different animals, while acting out the animal parts! Thanks, Ms. Schultz, for being a wonderful librarian! Have you ever tried to pick up a marble out of soapy water with your toes? Well, I was able to experience how slippery a marble can be in soapy water and also try out my dexterity with my toes! I took off my shoes and joined in with a kindergarten class as they participated in water day—with all of the concepts for the day being taught by using a water activity! It was great fun and one little girl even offered me a high five as I finished removing 5 marbles from the soapy water with my toes! The evidence is below!

GT Summer Camp and Suzuki Strings!

I visited a few of the summer school classes today. I was able to see the GT summer camp learning about entomology through painting with maggots and preparing delicacies with worms and fire ants! I was really glad that I didn’t have to eat the worm pizza! Math classes were busy with fractions, circumference, and number lines. Ms. Hill even allowed me to illustrate the concept of positive and negative on the number line with some of her students. Also, Suzuki violin lessons are continuing through the summer as you can see from the picture above. I enjoyed a respite from my paperwork—interacting with our students always makes my day delightful!

  • C.E. King Class of 2011!

Posted by Dr. Vickey M. Giles at 6/2/2011 11:55:00 AM

I attended one of the most wonderful graduations last night as C. E. King High School seniors came together for the last time as a class to celebrate!  The graduates were amazing!  They were respectful of the solemnity of the occasion, yet they celebrated together as classmates received their diplomas and made their speeches.

This group of graduates will be missed.

I know they are going to make Sheldon ISD and C. E. King High School very proud as they enter the adult world.

    Congratulations, Class of 2011!
