NMS Book Club
The goal of the NMS Book Club is for members to share the joy of reading. The library was awarded a $1000 grant by the district to support a multicultural book club called Reading Around the World. Students will read books set in different countries. Thirty two students were chosen by drawing names for the first club. Additional clubs will be chosen in the same manner.
The club's first book is
Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan. This story is set in India.
The next book will be
Shabanu, Daughter of the Wind by Suzanne Staples.This story takes place in Pakistan.
Students regularly attending the club and passing the Reading Counts quiz for both books will be eligible to attend a field trip to a temple and buffet lunch at an Indian restaurant.
Any student who would like to form a book club is welcome to speak to Mrs. Johnston in the library.
The library supports Reading Counts, a program designed to encourage students to read for pleasure. Students test their knowledge of the book with an online multiple choice test. Scores of 70 or above earn points for the book. In May, the top 15 students earning the most points in Reading Counts for each grade will be invited to go bowling at Armadilla Lanes.
