Principal's Message

Principal Denise Mustin

Denise MustinWelcome everyone! You’ve ventured into a great place--our Cravens’ Early Childhood Academy Website. As principal, it is my pleasure to cordially invite you to make yourself at home and stay awhile. Whether you are a prospective parent looking at our school, an admiring parent or grandparent keen to see what your loved ones have been doing in school, or a fellow educator or student interested in what our teachers and students are learning and sharing, I am confident you will find the words and images within to be rich and informative.

The 2012-2013 school year promises much excitement as we all work together to see that each of our students reaches his or her potential. I have been in the Sheldon ISD district for 19 years. I taught 3rd and 4th grade, was the librarian at Sheldon Elementary and here at Cravens Academy. I was assistant principal at Sheldon Elementary for 5 years, and principal at Monahan Elementary for two years. I am very excited to be the principal of Cravens Academy this year.

Our main goal at Cravens Academy is student achievement. We will emphasize reading so that all students not only learn to read, but they learn to love reading. Sheldon ISD is giving us all the tools we need to ensure your child receives the best education possible. We have implemented major upgrades in technology and software, spent hours in professional development, and have resources available such as a new vertically aligned curriculum called C-Scope to guarantee effective teaching.

We also see the importance of providing activities and programs that help develop the whole child. We are pleased to announce that we will house the Suzuki string program and Dual Language Programs for our districts Kindergartners. We will also have a fine arts performing group and will have a Gifted and Talented Camp during the 4th 9 weeks of school.

Parent communication is essential to every child’s success. This year I will be using “IRIS” to send out phone messages and email messages to inform you of upcoming events. I will also post new information and celebrations through a principal blog. I ask that you keep the lines of communication open between home and school. As a parent of four children, I see the great benefit of a family-centered, community oriented atmosphere and I am honored to be serving as your principal this year.

Again, welcome to our Cub Community. I strongly believe that the school functions best when the school, parents, and children work together for common goals. There will be many volunteer opportunities and I encourage all families to become involved in the school. I welcome parent input and look forward to establishing relationships that will foster the academic and social development of your child.

See you around the campus,

Denise Mustin, Principal
