Principal’s Message

 Greetings,

Welcome to Carroll Elementary, where we are on the road to success!  I am honored and blessed to be the Instructional Leader of an academically successful campus!  During the 2011-2012 school year, we met adequate yearly progress (AYP) after the inaugural year of the new state assessment, STAAR!  Our success is credited solely to our dedicated professors and eager scholars.  I’m confident we will continue our tradition of excellence this school year.

I welcome and encourage you to visit our campus on a regular basis to see our students authentically engaged in learning.  We are committed to “Nurturing the Heart and Educating the Mind” of every scholar at Carroll Elementary.  In other words, we understand building positive relationships is a prerequisite for student learning.  The faculty and I will strive to create the same relationships with you as we embark on this journey.

This year’s theme is “On the Road to Success.”  Our theme is grounded in the premise that we are laying the foundation (road) for a successful future (college).  When you visit our campus, you will see how we are building a culture of college-bound scholars from our college word wall to the college pennants that decorate the hallways.

We have planned several activities to get the students thinking about how what they are doing NOW will prepare them for the FUTURE.  We are proud to introduce Carroll Colts’ Branch Bank to our scholars.  We are partnering with Woodforest National Bank to open student savings accounts.  Our scholars will be able to make deposits in their accounts bi-monthly right here at Carroll.  Our goal is to teach our scholars the importance of saving now so they are financially responsible in the future.

We will continue to implement the research-based district curriculum in all grade levels.  With careful planning, we will continue to incorporate the Professional Learning Community (PLC) model into our campus plan.  By embracing PLCs, we will create formative assessments to get a pulse on our students’ progress, analyze data on a frequent basis, and initiate interventions immediately resulting in increased student achievement.  Read 180 and System 44 will continue to be used as Reading interventions for identified students.  We will also implement SuccessMaker, as an intervention tool, to increase Reading and Math proficiency.

I look forward to getting to know each of you over the course of the year.  With your partnership, we are destined to take Carroll Elementary to the next level of academic success.

On the road to success,

Dr. H. P. Hyder, III

Principal
